The Navigator L has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Palisade doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Navigator L. But it costs extra on the Palisade.

Both the Navigator L and the Palisade have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Lincoln Navigator L weighs 1152 to 1604 pounds more than the Hyundai Palisade. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Reliability

The Navigator L has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Palisade doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lincoln vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai With 1 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Lincoln higher than Hyundai.

Engine

The Navigator L’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 153 more horsepower (440 vs. 287) and 250 lbs.-ft. more torque (510 vs. 260) than the Palisade’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6. The Navigator L’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 111 more horsepower (440 vs. 329) and 171 lbs.-ft. more torque (510 vs. 339) than the Palisade’s optional 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Lincoln Navigator L is faster than the Hyundai Palisade:

Fuel Economy and Range

The Navigator L has 9.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Palisade Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (27.8 vs. 18.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Navigator L has 8.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Palisade V6’s standard fuel tank (27.8 vs. 19 gallons).

The Navigator L has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Palisade doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lincoln Navigator L, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Palisade.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Navigator L’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Palisade:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Navigator L has larger standard tires than the Palisade (275/50R22 vs. 235/65R18). The Navigator L Black Label’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Palisade (285/40R24 vs. 265/45R21).

The Navigator L’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Palisade’s standard 65 series tires. The Navigator L Black Label’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Palisade Calligraphy’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Navigator L has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Palisade. The Navigator L Black Label’s optional 24-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels on the Palisade Calligraphy.

The Lincoln Navigator L’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Hyundai Palisade only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

The Navigator L has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Palisade’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Navigator L’s wheelbase is 14.6 inches longer than on the Palisade (131.5 inches vs. 116.9 inches).

The Navigator L Black Label handles at .75 G’s, while the Palisade XRT PRO pulls only .74 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Navigator L Black Label executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.6 seconds quicker than the Palisade XRT PRO (26.4 seconds @ .25 average G’s vs. 29 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Navigator L has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Palisade (8.9 vs. 7.4 inches), allowing the Navigator L to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Navigator L’s minimum ground clearance is .5 inch higher than on the Palisade XRT PRO (8.9 vs. 8.4 inches).

Chassis

The Navigator L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Palisade doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Navigator L has 10.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Palisade (172.1 vs. 161.9).

The Navigator L has 3.1 inches more front hip room, 3.9 inches more front shoulder room, 5 inches more rear hip room, 4.1 inches more rear shoulder room, 11.4 inches more third row legroom, 6.1 inches more third row hip room and 8.6 inches more third row shoulder room than the Palisade.

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Navigator L when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the tailgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The Palisade doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

Cargo Capacity

The Navigator L’s cargo area provides more volume than the Palisade.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Navigator L. The Palisade doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Navigator L’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Palisade’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Towing

The Navigator L’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Palisade’s (6600 vs. 5000 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Hyundai Palisade is only 5000 pounds. The Navigator L offers up to a 8700 lbs. towing capacity.

While the Palisade Hybrid can only tow 4000, any Navigator L can tow a minimum of 6600 pounds.

The Navigator L with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Navigator L can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Palisade can’t be towed flat on the ground.

Servicing Ease

The engine in the Navigator L is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Palisade. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

The Navigator L’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Palisade’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the Navigator L the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Palisade can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Navigator L’s exterior PIN entry system. The Palisade doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Bluelink can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Navigator L’s standard Intelligent Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Palisade doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Navigator L’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Palisade’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Navigator L has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Palisade doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Navigator L also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Lincoln Navigator L has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Palisade SEL Premium/Limited/Calligraphy/Hybrid.

The Navigator L has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Palisade SEL Premium/XRT/Limited/Calligraphy/Hybrid.

Both the Navigator L and the Palisade offer available massaging front seats. The Navigator L Black Label also has standard massaging second row seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging second row seats aren’t available in the Palisade.

The Navigator L’s standard oscillating air vents move back and forth and distribute air evenly inside the vehicle, making everyone more comfortable. The Palisade doesn’t offer oscillating vents.

The Lincoln Navigator L has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Hyundai charges extra for Homelink® on the Palisade.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Lincoln Navigator L has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Palisade SEL/XRT/Limited/Calligraphy/Hybrid offers wireless charging. The Navigator L also offers Qi charging in the second row seat. The Palisade doesn’t offer wireless charging in its second row seat.

Recommendations

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Navigator as the 2018 North American Truck of the Year. The Palisade has never been chosen.
