For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Ford F-Super Duty have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Ram HD doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The F-Super Duty offers optional Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Ram HD doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the F-Super Duty and Ram HD offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the F-Super Duty with Cross Traffic Alert also has Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Ram HD’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the F-Super Duty and the Ram HD have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

There are over 18 percent more Ford dealers than there are Ram dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the F-Super Duty’s warranty.

The F-Super Duty has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Ram HD doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the F-Super Duty offers larger standard and optional batteries than the Ram HD:

J.D. Power and Associates rated the F-Super Duty first among large heavy duty pickups in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The Ram HD isn’t in the top three.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Ram vehicles. With 25 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Ford higher than Ram.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Ram With 34 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Ford higher than Ram.

The F-Super Duty’s standard 6.8 V8 produces 16 lbs.-ft. more torque (445 vs. 429) than the Ram HD’s 6.4 V8. The F-Super Duty’s optional 7.3 V8 produces 25 more horsepower (430 vs. 405) and 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (485 vs. 429) than the Ram HD’s 6.4 V8.

The F-Super Duty’s optional 6.7 turbo V8 diesel produces 45 more horsepower (475 vs. 430) than the Ram HD’s 6.7 turbo diesel. The F-Super Duty’s optional 6.7 turbo V8 diesel produces 70 more horsepower (500 vs. 430) and 125 lbs.-ft. more torque (1200 vs. 1075) than the Ram HD’s 6.7 turbo diesel.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Ford F-Super Duty uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Ram HD requires mid-grade for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 49.8 cents more per gallon.

The F-Super Duty Regular Cab Diesel/SuperCab Diesel’s standard fuel tank has a gallon more fuel capacity than the Ram HD Diesel Regular Cab’s standard fuel tank (29 vs. 28 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Ford F-Super Duty, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Ram HD.

For better stopping power the F-450’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Ram HD:

The F-Super Duty’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 75 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ram HD DRW’s standard 80 series tires.

The F-450’s wheels have 10 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Ram HD only has 8 wheel lugs per wheel.

The F-Super Duty 4x2’s independent front suspension is much lighter than the Ram HD’s solid front axle, which allows the F-Super Duty’s wheels to react more quickly and accurately to the road’s surface, improving both ride and handling.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Super Duty is 4.6 inches wider in the front than the average track on the Ram HD.

The F-350 Long Bed Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 handles at .72 G’s, while the Ram HD 3500 Long Box Limited Crew Cab 4x4 pulls only .61 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The F-250 Standard Bed King Ranch Crew Cab 4x4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Ram HD 3500 Long Box Limited Crew Cab 4x4 (29.7 seconds @ .56 average G’s vs. 30.2 seconds @ .53 average G’s).

The Ford F-Super Duty may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 350 pounds less than the Ram HD.

The F-Super Duty Regular Cab has 2.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Ram HD Regular Cab (64.7 vs. 62.5). The F-Super Duty Crew Cab has 7.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Ram HD Crew Cab (131.9 vs. 124.6).

The F-Super Duty Regular Cab has 1 inch more front headroom, 3 inches more front legroom and .8 inches more front shoulder room than the Ram HD Regular Cab.

The Ford F-Super Duty has a standard tailgate assist feature, which allows for much easier access to the cargo area. A rear cargo step costs extra on the Ram HD.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the F-Super Duty King Ranch/Platinum/Limited has a standard power cargo door, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Ram HD doesn’t offer a power cargo door.

Maximum trailer towing in the Ram HD is limited to 36710 pounds. The F-450 Long Bed Regular Cab offers up to a 40,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The F-Super Duty (except XL/XLT) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Ram HD doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The F-Super Duty’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Ram HD’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The F-Super Duty’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted. Power windows cost extra on the Ram HD.

The F-Super Duty’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Ram HD’s basic optional power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

On a hot day the F-Super Duty’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Ram HD can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The F-Super Duty’s standard power locks allow the driver or passenger to lock or unlock all the doors at a touch without leaning over. Power locks cost extra on the Ram HD.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the F-Super Duty’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Ram HD doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its extra cost SiriusXM Guardian can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The F-Super Duty has standard power remote mirrors. The Ram HD only comes with remote mirrors at extra cost. Without them the driver will have to roll down the windows and reach across the car to adjust the mirrors.

The F-Super Duty’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ram charges extra for heated mirrors on the Ram HD.

The F-Super Duty King Ranch/Platinum has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Ram HD.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the F-Super Duty first among large heavy duty pickups in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Ram HD isn’t in the top three.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the F-Super Duty as the 2024 North American Truck of the Year. The Ram HD has never been chosen.
